• 2023 Kiwifruit seasonal starting pay rate is $24.00 (plus 8% holiday pay); with additional pay for nights, weekends and some of the specialised roles.

We have four shift choices (start and end times can vary slightly):

• Day shift runs for around 7.5 hours.
• Afternoon shift is four hours only.
• For longer day time hours you can combine Day and Afternoon for a 12-hour shift.
• Night shift is longer hours, 9.5 hours, to ensure you get the biggest bang for your commitment to the nights.

All shifts can pack up to six days a week and we would love you to join us for all packing days, however if there are days you can’t work we’ll try to work around it as best we can.

We’ve got two sites to choose from. Most people will choose the one closest to where they live, where it’s easiest for them to get a ride too or where their friends and whānau work.

All of our jobs require you to be on your feet for a long period of time, some are more physical than others and some require some specialised skills – let us know what you’re interested in and we’ll try to match you up as best we can.

• Packer – to pack our lovely kiwifruit into various types and sizes of boxes.
• Stacker – lifting boxes from the packing line onto pallets, you’ll need to be comfortable lifting up to 20kg at a time and lifting above your head.
• Strapper – Let the strapping machine do the heavy work, but you’ll be working at a steady pace to keep up with the pace of packing.
• Team Leaders/Supervisors for different sections
• Forklift Operator – requires Forklift License and some experience in busy environment preferred.
• Bin Tip Operator – mechanical aptitude required, operating the bin tip to load bins of fruit onto the conveyer system for processing.
• Fruit Grader – long periods of standing and concentration required.
• Quality Controller – sample and monitor our fruit and packing process to ensure compliance with relevant standards and best return to our growers.
• Tray Preparation – carefully prepare our boxes before the fruit gets packed into them.
• EAN Operator – this is the data person, so you’ll need to be computer savvy and happy with administration.

We also have our own onsite canteens that provide yummy food to our team; so, if food prep is your thing, you can also come and join in as Canteen Assistant.

Our drug and alcohol policy – To ensure the safety of all of our team, our high-risk roles will require you to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test.  We also do post-incident, random, reasonable cause and search and surveillance testing.

Before you apply for seasonal work at DMS make sure you’re 16 and over with current ID, you’re a permanent resident (or have a valid work visa) and you have an IRD number and NZ bank account.

We have our orchards teams set up in Te Puna, Te Puke and Gisborne.

Although we don’t have our own picking gangs, we do require a boost to our staff numbers at different times of the year to get critical jobs done, generally in short time frames.

• March to June – harvest auditing.
• July to October – winter pruning.
• October – flower thinning.
• November – flower picking for pollen.
• December to January – fruit thinning/summer pruning.
